WHAT IS PROVERB??

       Proverb is a simple and concrete saying. Expresses a truth bassed on common sense or experience.
      Other defenition of proverb: The defenition of a proverb is a short saying that is widely used to express an obvious truth.

      We can see example of proverb:
1. Practice makes perfect.
2. Honesty is the best policy.
3. Good things come to those who wait.

*First of all, proverb had and still have a didactic function. By using them, we wish to teach people, give them some advice.
*Secondly, proverb are very oftem used in personal interaction.

Another example:
"Actions speak louder thank words" , means that "What you do is more important than what you say."

    Thank you Mushtafa for your question.Proverb were and are used nowadays as an effective spoken or written tool of expressing various meanings and intentions. They include wisdom, knowledge and truth which is manifested in a few colourful words. In spite of the fact the proverbs have figurative meaning, the message they carry is delivered very quickly and to the point which makes it very functional while used in spoken language, political speeches, newspaper headlines, cartoon titles and slogans in the advertisements. Like that, Mus. :))

    Okay, thanks Siska. Proverb are we often use in daily life. An example: Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Ever you hear this proverb? This proverb is said to encourage people who want to give up. Sometimes, we face problems that seem impossible. But if you want it bad enough, nothing can stand in your way. That is what this proverb means—if you have the will to meet the problems that are in front of you, there is a way to overcome them.

    Thanks Siti. Another example of proverb is "Handsome is as handsome does"– Deeds define a man’s character. My father was a man of principles and he always lived up to them. Since childhood, he taught us, your actions speak for you because handsome is as handsome does.

    Hy Riyanti. Thank you. Before we choose idiom or proverb, we must know what is proverb and what is idiom. In my opinion, idiom is an expression that is peculiar to itself grammatically or cannot be understood from the individual meanings of the words. Quite a few idioms are language specific, and thus diificult to translate. Example:A cold day in Hell.Proverb is a simple and short saying, widely known, often metaphorical, which expresses a basic truth or practical precept, based on common sense or cultural experience. Example: Honesty is the best policy. And based on my opinion, people almost use proverb than idiom.
